Directions for Villa Sarann from Palma airport:

As you leave the airport follow signs to SANTANYI, which should bring you onto a dual carriageway. Take the second exit off this road to MANACOR road Ma-15. Follow signs to Manacor.  There is a new ring road around Manacor – follow signs to Cala Rajada around Manacor, still Ma-15. Continue following Cala Rajada and Ma-15 signs until you see Son Severa signed. Now follow signs to Son Servera road Ma-4030 and then once on the outskirts of Son Severa follow to Cala Rajada again on Ma-4040.  When you go through the long tunnel on the main road after Son Servera you will come to a roundabout signposted to Canyamel.  Take the 1st exit here.  After about 200 metres turn left, which is signposted to the Coves of Arta follow this road for about 3km past the golf course.  The road will then bend sharp left and there is a right turn (which is effectively straight on), which you need to take with lots of yellow signs for different apartments. Follow for Beach Hotel, which is signposted towards our villa. There is a small delicatessen on the right, which may be shut up (just a landmark). Follow the road down the hill bending first left and then right. The Driveway to Villa Saran is marked on the left immediately after the Villa tennis court, also on the left.  If you end up at the Coves d’Arta you missed the right turn to Beach Hotel. If you end up at Cap Vermell Beach Hotel and the beach you missed the Villa driveway. Good luck!  On arrival Susan and Terry will either be there to greet you or will have left the key under the doormat outside the downstairs kitchen.

Television:
There is a free-sat satellite television and radio service both upstairs and downstairs.  This provides both BBC television and radio.  The two sets work independently.  There are DVD players upstairs and downstairs with some DVD’s to watch. Ipods can plug into the TV’s; there is a cable upstairs in the drawer under the TV.

Restaurants: a few recommendations from us; we welcome feedback and additions.

El Meson, www.restaurantemeson.com, email elmeson@restaurantemeson.com.  This is an excellent pizza restaurant across the beach bridge behind the first beach hotel.  Cross the bridge and pass behind the hotel where you will come to a little square with the restauranta opposite you.  Pizza is about £5 a head.  Delicious fattening ice creams available for those whose figures will allow!  No reservations needed. TV showing football.

Vell Mari - via Las Cuevas 7 – 971 816 067
This is very close to El Meson.  Walk between the shops in the short pedestrian High St in Canyamel and this restaurant is to the right when the shops end.  Reasonable prices and very friendly service.

Cap Vermell Beach hotel, 971841157, Club & Restaurant, “Vintage 1934”, Plaza Pins de Ses Vegues, I, 07589 Canyamel, Capdepera, Mallorca.  http://www.capvermellbeachhotel.com/en/

This is the closest restaurant to Villa Sarann and is situated to the left of the beach on our side of the bay. The food is good although in the higher price range (degustation menu is better value at 35 euros) and the setting is amazing.  The terrace offers an excellent view over the beach.  (Currently Closed)

Beach Bars – There are two restaurants on the beach, both of which are great for lunch, drinks or ice creams.

Porxada de Sa Torre (the torre restaurant at the castle, 971 841310)

Capdepera, Mallorca.  http://www.torredecanyamel.com/grupo.php?id=4
About 3 miles from the beach is the little castle or Torre, which dates from the 13th century and is well worth a visit in its own right. You can see it from the villa terrace. It has an excellent restaurant attached, which has become more expensive of late, but is still moderate in price.  The suckling pig is a speciality and these can be seen roasting round the back.  The sobrasada sausage as a starter is also recommended together with a jug of wine (1litre jug was 2.75 euros last summer).

Hotel Can Simoneta, 07580 Canyamel, Mallorca.  http://www.torredecanyamel.com/grupo.php?id=2

This is an exclusive restaurant on the cliff tops on the other side of the beach in a converted old farmhouse.  We are told the food is good, the position is wonderful on a warm summer evening and there is a spa for those wanting pampering. However the meals are in the higher price range and the Hotel accommodates adults only.

Mel Beach http://www.hotelmelbeach.com Newly refurbished adult only hotel across the beach. Lovely terrace to sit and drink cocktails. Haven’t tried restaurant yet.

Cala Rotja - Via de las Calas, Costa de Canyamel, 07589

Lovely cliff top setting, on the opposite side of the bay and very nice food – gets very busy so worth booking ahead and ask for a table by the sea.

Park HYATT MALLORCA - Urbanización Atalaya de Canyamel, Vial A, 12

Canyamel, 07589 Tel: +34 871 81 1234 www.mallorca.park.hyatt.com/ Newly opened top of the range Hyatt with 5 restaurants to choose from.

Paparazzi, Calla Bona http://www.paparazziristorante.com/

Very popular pizza restaurant at Calla Bona, Avda 1 Garau Mulet, 22 Cala Bona
Take the road towards Arta.  At the roundabout between Son Severa and Capdepera turn left through the tunnel.  About 2 miles down the road take the road to the left to Calla Bona.  At the end turn right parallel with the coast for about a mile to the harbour at Calla Bona.

La Cabana, Costa de Los Pinos – 971816500  www.eurotelmallorca.com   The position is superb on a nice evening with a terrace looking out to sea.  Take the road towards Arta.  At the roundabout between Son Severa and Capdepera turn left through the tunnel.  After about 1.5km turn left to Sa Costa des Pins and keep left to Eurotel. You drive behind the Eurotel and though you may think you have arrived at the kitchens, park here and walk down round the back of the hotel where you will be pleasantly surprised to find a rather elegant restaurant and terrace awaiting you. Prices above average when last tried.

Ses Rotges, Cala Rajada, 971563108.  A superb restaurant of Michelin star quality but with prices to match.  www.sesrotges.com.

Ca’n Pere – Cala Rajada – some tables on jetty out into bay – excellent fish and moderate prices Avenida America, 34, Cala Ratjada tel 34971563005

Binicanella – http://www.restaurante-binicanella.com/en  old monastery converted into restaurant. Real rustic charm. Own vineyard.  It is on the Son Severa road about 1km after tunnel and on right just after Sera de Pula Golf.  Look out for original Majorcan railway as you drive into restaurant.  Moderate prices and amusing host and a must for big meat eaters.

Just up side street from main square going towards the castle. Very quaint and delicious Mediterranean food.

La Renaissance – Capdepera near to Urgencias – said to be excellent
Tel:  971563713
Carrer Nou 20,  07580 Capdepera

Andreu Genestra
Michelin star restaurant at Hotel Predi Son Jaumell. Cami de Son Moltó, klm 1, 07590 Capdepera, http://andreugenestra.com/ not tried yet…

Restaurant Cases de Son Barbassa, http://www.sonbarbassa.com/ Romantik Hotel & Restaurant 07580 Cala Mesquida, Capdepera. Terrace with panoramic view in a rural setting between Capdepera and CalaRajada.  Take the road to Cala Mesquida and then follow signs.  They grow their own olives and produce wonderful Olive Oil, which are delicious though meal prices are higher than average.

Shopping:
Most things can be purchased from the shops across the beach.  Between the 2 main beach hotels there is a track which 50m later becomes the pedestrian High Street.  On the left there are a newspaper shop, 2 supermarkets and a pharmacy.  On the right side is a bakery and clothes shops. However items generally cost more in these local shops, due to their location, than shops further inland. There is one cash machine next to the newsagent. If it is not working then the nearest machines are in Capdepera or Arta.

On the road between Capdepera and Cala Rajada, there are Eroski, Lidl and Mercadona supermarkets all with parking. Take the road towards Capdepera and then follow signs for Cala Rajada.

In Arta there is now an Agromart which sells fruit and vegetables direct from the farmers of Mallorca http://www.agromart.es/shops/arta and is good quality.
There is also a small Eroski in Arta. Drive towards Arta. As you come into Arta there is a roundabout where you turn left.  Go straight on at the next roundabout (200m later). You will see the Agromart on the left. If you continue on to the next roundabout (about 200m later), turn right down the main High Street.  About 100m down the High Street becomes pedestrian only and you turn left with the Eroski supermarket on your right.
There are morning markets in the local towns – Tuesday = Arta, Wednesday = Capdepera, Friday = Son Severa, Saturday = Cala Ratjada.

Near by Excursions:

Caves of Arta: http://www.cuevasdearta.com/
The caves at the end of the road are well worth a visit and the entrance fee  was 14 euros last time I checked. You could alternatively go there in the evening and admire their entrance and position for free.  You can walk to the caves quite easily along the coastal path, though you will eventually have to climb quite a number of steps to the main road to reach the caves. It is a very pleasant walk in the evening.

The Market in Arta is fun on a Tuesday morning, but parking is limited.  As with all busy bustling places it is advisable to keep tight hold of your valuables.  Live chickens and Ecuadorian bow & arrows are just some of the joys.

Pedal boats and kayaks can be hired from the beach in Canyamel on a fine day and there is a Volleyball net on the beach.
Bikes can be rented in Canyamel village from Autos Canyamel, Calle Via de Les Coves, Tel: 971 84 10 60

There is a glass bottom boat, which goes up to Cala Rajada.  Tickets for this can be purchased from the shop in the High Street behind the cash machine.

The castle at Capdepera is fun to visit although climbing the hill is challenging. http://www.castellcapdepera.com/

Driving to Cap de Formentor above Pollenca is fun, and the most scenic route is through Muro thus avoiding the developments before Alcudia.  From Pollenca the route through the mountains and back via Inca is spectacular.  The round trip can take several hours but you could interrupt it with lunch at the spectacular Hotel Formentor (Barcelo Hotel group).

Sailing boats can be hired from Sail and Surf in Pollensa (1 hrs drive). They also run a sailing school from Tuesdays to Thursdays.  http://www.sailsurf.de/en/

Segways – go on an hour tour of Calle Agulla and Cala Rajada on Segways. Fun way to see some of the area. Tel +34 634317266 website www.segpark.es

Excursions further afield: the island of Mallorca is small and there are many day trips you can do by car from Villa Sarann including Palma, Deia, Valldemossa, Inca, Soller and its port to name a few beautiful towns worth a visit.

HAVE A GREAT HOLIDAY!
